A Graphic Novel Adaptation of The Way of Shadows

I’m so happy I can FINALLY share this! This afternoon, at their annual San Diego Comic-Con panel, Yen Press announced their upcoming adaptation of The Way of Shadows. The Way of Shadows graphic novel will be a single-volume adapation, and is slated for release in 2013.

Yen Press is a leader in the field of graphic novels, having adapted works like Witch & Wizard by James Patterson and Gail Carriger’s Soulless among many others. Their publishing schedule this year includes adaptations of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s The Chronicles of Nick, Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments and Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire: Claudia’s Story. Yen Press was founded by Kurt Hassler, the man many credit with bringing graphic novels and manga into the mainstream in the United States (in 2006, he was named #1 Most Powerful Person in American Manga Publishing). If you’re interested in learning more, you can check out

I’ve already been discussing artists with Kurt whom we believe will bring a unique and bold vision to The Way of Shadows. I’ll announce who we’ve contracted and release samples of their art as I am able to do so.

Night Angel Omnibus Glossary

Well, it took some doing, but I’m happy to be able to bring you the brand-new Night Angel Omnibus Glossary. I usually find glossaries to be boring, so I gave this one a bit of a voice and a story that you can see played out through the head notes, the marginalia, the end notes, and also in the comments on the Character List. I hope you have fun reading it. I certainly had fun writing it.

Also, if you’re looking at this as you read The Night Angel Trilogy for the first time, the terms and characters are spoiler-free as of the first time you read them in the text. If, on the other hand, you read straight through the entire glossary, you will probably have some things spoiled for you. When a writer’s stories have as many twists and turns as mine do, it’s hard to write a glossary like this at all! A big thank you to Orbit for giving me permission to post these, and in particular to Alex L. who helped us figure out a way to make these viewable with the margin notes intact.

The Glossary is HERE, and will also live under the Extras tab.

Reddit Fantasy_Bookclub

Brent had such a good time answering questions for the Reddit community a couple months ago (link HERE), that when the Reddit Fantasy_Bookclub asked him to come by and do it again, he was more than happy to say yes.  He’ll be answering questions live on May 15 at 7pm Central Standard Time over HERE. Come check it out and also see all of the great books the bookclub is reading and discussing.  Check it out, maybe it’s a good fit for you. Like last time, you will need a login in order to participate.  Hope you can make it!

And there’s a new poll at right.

Launch Day!

Although The Night Angel Trilogy Omnibus has been on shelves for a week or two, today is our official launch date. For all sorts of details and even one of the extras for free, look at the posts below. Also, there’s a new poll up to the right!

Character List for the Night Angel Trilogy

The Night Angel Trilogy Omnibus will be officially released on Tuesday (though some of you may find it at your bookseller early). In order to give you more reasons to think about clearing some space on your shelf for this, than simply fantastic new cover art and a reworked map, I wanted to give you extra.  Specifically, Extras: things that I either didn’t have time to include when I was editing three books at once in the run-up to the rapid publication of the trilogy a few years ago, or things that I had cut, but with the benefit of hindsight have reconsidered.

There’s a rumor that when production heard that I wanted to add 62 pages of extras to a book that was already more than 1,200 pages long that the echoes of the wailing resounded through the 14 floors of the Hachette building for two weeks. Reports that an intern burned through two pairs of Manolo Blahniks in her marathons back and forth to Starbucks are, however, completely unsubstantiated. For one thing, I hear the interns at Hachette wear Christian Louboutin.

However, I prevailed. Not only did I get permission to add that new content, I also got permission to share two parts of it with you for free! You know, just in case you’re a poor, poor student or something, but a big, big fan, I want to do all I can to help you out. You will buy lots of my books when you make your millions, right? Right? Bueller? Anyway, today, I’m happy to share the NAT Character List HERE. It will also live under the “Extras” tab, and you can also find the link on the “Night Angel- The Complete Trilogy” page.

Because things like Character Lists and Glossaries tend to be really boring — most of the reason that I didn’t include them in The Night Angel Trilogy originally was because I never read them myself — I thought I would do something to spice this up. There’s a little meta-fiction happening here that is best understood if you read both the Glossary and the Character List together, but… well, I’ve got to leave some tricks up my sleeve.

Hope you enjoy it!
