A New Look at Shadows…

When senior design student Herman Chaneco was tasked with designing covers for a book series – which shadowy trilogy  do you think he picked?

Herman Chaneco has managed to pull of some stunning light-and-shadows art here with his own creations for the Night Angel Trilogy covers. As he put it: “Notice that the shadows create two images. One fills in the typography and the other light source creates the character.”

Pretty amazing art!

Here are the three covers, in order, with two shots each so you can see the covers with the light at different angles:

Was it just my imagination, or did that shadow just take a swipe at me with a sword?

The Way of Shadows

Those wetboys… always creeping around on ceilings where you can’t notice them…

The Shadow’s Edge

Somehow, Chaneco managed to make it look like Kylar could be either beyond or in the shadows… at the same time.

Beyond the Shadows

Many thanks to Herman Chaneco for sharing his hard work, I’m pumped I get to share it with you all (and I’m pretty sure he got an A+)!

If any of you has some great original Night Angel Trilogy or Black Prism visual art, feel free to send it to me at Mostly because I love to see it–but every once in a while, if I’m confronted with awesome, I may ask your permission to share them with everyone.

The Best Kylar Stern Costume…Ever

Too late for Halloween costume contest–breathe a sigh of relief everyone else–Sam writes in, “This is me being Kylar. I reckon my costume smashes yours. =D

Uh, no arguments here. Sir.

Fan Art Contest Winner

The winner of the Fan Art Contest is Meaghan Beninati with this cool rendition of Vi in Caernarvon:

Congratulations, Meaghan. (Check her website for other cool stuff.) Great work. I wish I had half of your talent. You will be receiving a signed set of the Night Angel Trilogy, made out to whomever you want. (Check someone off that Christmas list!)

I got lots of cool entries for this contest, (and hated having to choose just one winner) so I will be posting all of the fan art (of those entrants who give me permission) into the pictures area of the forum. So give that a day or so for people to tell me yes or no, and then you should be able to find some more great fan art all in one place.

Fan Art Contest

The fan art contest deadline is December 1st. If you wish to participate, please email me a .jpg of your art at brent[dot]a[dot]weeks[at]gmail[dot]com. You can submit as many pieces as you wish. The winner will receive signed copies of the Night Angel Trilogy, and your art will be posted on this webpage for a billion fans to adore. (That is, if you tell 999,998,000 of your friends to come look.)

I’m really looking forward to seeing what you all can do!

Close to Klingons Halloween Contest & Fan Art Contest

Should I reward madness?

Well, I’m going to. I know of at least one fan who intends to go to a Halloween party as Durzo Blint or Kylar Stern. So I have a VERY short notice Halloween Contest, wherein whomever has the best Night Angel Trilogy costume gets a signed copy of The Way of Shadows. I may–or may not if the winner goes as Vi–post the winning photograph. Send your entries to brent dot a dot weeks at gmail dot com. (Make appropriate substitutions for dots and the ampersand.) If there’s only one entry, well, he wins. If the winner wishes to have a signed copy of Shadow’s Edge or Beyond the Shadows instead, I will be happy to oblige. (Though I can only send Beyond the Shadows once I get it.)

Second, I have recently seen some pretty amazing fan art. Check HERE and HERE by Ajahli. Her blog HERE. So here’s a contest that already has a strong front-runner. Whoever submits the best fan art by November 30 will get signed copies of the entire trilogy, made out to whomever they wish, and mailed to them. Because I have no artistic talent myself, I have to confess I’m thrilled. Soo cool.

Please entitle your email “Costume Contest” or “Fan Art Contest” so I can sort them easily. Thanks.

Oh, I’ve also updated the Reviews page. If I’ve missed reviews on the intarwebs that are helpful, please post or shoot me an email. I’ll flag reviews that have too many spoilers.
