Mysterious Galaxy: Redondo Beach This Friday

To help celebrate the release of the mass market paperback of The Black Prism and the opening of the new Redondo Beach location of the justly-famed Mysterious Galaxy, I will be flying down to California this Friday to do a quick signing. If you’re in the area, please come and see me and check out the new store! If you haven’t heard, they’re kind of a big deal. If you’re interested in science fiction, mystery, fantasy, and horror, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a store with more knowledgeable staff or better selection.  I’ll be reading previously unseen chapters from my work, and signing your books at 7:30 pm at 2810 Artesia Blvd, Redondo Beach, CA 90278, on Friday, September 23rd.

Number 1!

Thank you so much to everyone who spread the word on Thursday about the e-book promotion for The Way of Shadows. And if you’re new to my work, thanks for giving me a shot! I don’t have any numbers yet from all the other major e-tailers, but I am beyond delighted to say that I had a few golden hours in the sun.

And I’m a redhead. So really, a few hours is all I can handle. Wonder if I can get The Help to hand me my SPF 75?

Again, thank you so, so much. And hey, check out that other book too. I hear it’s got ninjas.

$1.99 e-Book

If you have recently purchased a handy-dandy e-Reader, and you’re not yet in trouble with your bank, parents, or significant other for your impulse purchases — boy do I have a deal for you!

Today The Way of Shadows e-book is available for $1.99.  This is a limited time offer, available only in the United States for 24 hours, this Thursday only.

Impulses, rejoice!

Go here, here, here, or here to buy the e-book.

Twitter Give-Away

Upon recently reaching 5,000 followers on Twitter, someone had a great idea: I should give away something free! I think other people have had this idea for a long time. We call those BitTorrent geeks.

This time, however, they actually asked my permission! See what happens when you say please? (Note: please do not say “please” in the aftermath of this webpost. It only works once.)

Originally, I was going to select a winner in some way that is creative and fun. I was informed, however, that lawyers do not like creative and fun, and that I might run afoul of lottery laws if I did anything that burbled with personality.  So on Friday night I will be randomly selecting, with the help of some internet randomizer, 5 lucky winners! No purchase necessary!!

Oooh, prizes!

If you were not in the first 5,000, but you do follow me before Friday, it is quite likely that the randomizer will be simply too stupid to screen you out. (This is why I was a terrible disciplinarian when I was a teacher. The hard luck cases get me every time: “Ah, but Mr. Weeks! My syphilitic cat threw up on my homework!” “Um, yuck. Ok, turn it in tomorrow.”)

I will contact the Lucky Five on Monday. And remember, lottery games should not be played for investment purposes. Unless, you know

Bookplates Bonanza!–UPDATED–ALL GONE

For those of you who have not been able to come to any of my signings — and you had an incredibly good reason, right? — I want to give a limited, first-come-first-serve opportunity to get the next best thing to a signed book. If you don’t know what a bookplate is, mine look something like this:

I will be happy to sign and personalize bookplates for the first 200 people who email me with their snail mail address. Please put “bookplate” in the subject line. In the  body of your message, please include which book you intend to place the bookplate in, and to whom you want the bookplate dedicated. I will cover the postage for those first 200 (even internationally) and only ask that if you haven’t done so already, that you sign up for the Brent Weeks newsletter here. (I will not automatically put you into the newsletter list, and the newsletter only goes out 2-4 times a year. It’s an e-newsletter, btw. Those are just emailed out.)

*UPDATE* All the bookplates are gone. Thank you so much for your fervor. I had wondered if I’d be pathetically flogging my free bookplates on street corners a month from now. My hand also thanks you… not so much. Give me a couple weeks to get these all done and in the mail.

Powell’s Signing — Thursday, September 8

Although I enjoyed my time at Dragon*Con in Atlanta, it’s always good to be home.  And what better way to celebrate the release of The Black Prism in mass market paperback than with fans in my own neighborhood?

So this Thursday, September 8, I’ll be reading from The Blinding Knife, answering questions, and signing books starting at 7pm. More details are here, and directions to Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing are here.

French Cover Released for The Black Prism/Le Prisme Noir

Dear French fans,

You didn’t think I’d forget about you, did you? As you know, the French covers for my books have always been among my favorite. As you can see below, Bragelonne continues their winning streak with this:

Miguel Coimbra is the talented artist, and you can see more of his work here.

Le Prisme Noir will be released in October, and I have been working even this week on the last, final points of the translation with the talented team at Bragelonne. You can pre-order here.

The Blinding Knife — First Three Chapters

The mass market paperback of The Black Prism released this week, and in addition to having a nicely reworked map, the paperback also has a sneak peek into the forthcoming second book of The Lightbringer Trilogy, The Blinding Knife.

I didn’t want the people who bought the hardcover to be left out, so I’ve successfully lobbied Orbit to give us the rights to post the first three chapters of The Blinding Knife here. You can also access it under the “Extras” tab from the main page.

(I should note that The Blinding Knife is slated for a September 2012 release, and that these chapters may see significant revisions between now and then. But if you don’t mind seeing scenes that are hot off the presses, and maybe a smidge rough, please click over here.)

Updated Dragon*Con Schedule

Here is the best information I have for the events I’ll be attending at Dragon*Con. Note that I’ve added a nearby off-site KaffeeKlatsch/Literary Beer. (For those of you who’ve never heard of such strange things, this will basically be an opportunity to sit down with a group of 10-15 people and me and chat for an hour or two.)

Title: Crossing the line: Too much or not enough Attending Authors (besides Brent): Gary Kim Hayes, Shelly Shapiro, Elizabeth Moon, A.J. Hartley, Nancy L. Holder

Description: How much violence, blood and gore is too much? Is there a limit? Are you flirting with that line?

Title: Blood & Steel Attending Authors (besides Brent): David B. Coe, Gail Z. Martin, Carole Nelson Douglas
Time: Sun 10:00 am PM Location: Montreal / Vancouver – Hyatt (Length:1 hour)
Description: Tales of swords, sorcery, and grim adventure.

*NOTE: There is some confusion about whether this event is at 10 am or at 10 pm. I’ve asked the programming staff and will update this page as soon as I know.*

*UPDATE: The panel is at 10PM.

Title: Dragon*Autographs Attending Authors (besides Brent): Kevin J. Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, C.L. Wilson
Time: Sun 11:30 am Location: M301 – M304 – Marriott (Length: 1 hour)

Please note that there will be NO books for sale at this signing, so please bring your own copies for me to sign. (I will sign bookplates  for those who forget their books… but let’s be honest, that’s not quite as cool as a signed book, is it?)

Where: M301-M304 (Marriott)

*We may also be adding a KaffeeKlatch/Literary Beer or booksigning at a nearby bookstore — will update with details as soon as they’re available!*

We will be having an unofficial KaffeeKlatch/Literary Beer off-site from Dragon*Con but nearby at 3pm on Sunday. We’ll likely limit the numbers so you can actually talk to me. I’ve never been to Dragon*Con or the bar where the event will be held, so I’m kind of feeling my way through the dark here. It’s free, but you must register. To register, simply email me (brent [at]brentweeks.com) with “DragonCon” or “Dragon*Con” in the subject line and I’ll email back where it will be. You can register for yourself and a guest. First come, first served.

Schwarzes Prisma/Black Prism Release in Germany!

Dear German fans,

This week will see the release of Schwarzes Prisma. You can order on amazon.de. And here’s the blurb:

Or at least I think that’s the blurb. Since I don’t speak German I can’t be sure…

I hope you love it!
