David Farland’s Nightingale

Nightingale

Author David Wolverton (pen name: David Farland) needs your help. His son Ben was recently in a long-boarding accident, and the Wolverton family does not have medical insurance. His son is in a coma, and to help cover the staggering medical costs, the SFF community is banding together to help. We’d love it if you’d join us. Here are three ways you can help:

1. Purchase Nightingale, one of Dave’s books which he owns full rights to, and will therefore make the most profit possible. (Go HERE.)

2. Use that same Amazon affiliate link the next time or the next few times you shop at Amazon. Even if you buy totally unrelated items, the Wolverton family will make 7-8% on your total purchase. (This won’t change the prices of any of the items you buy, it simply bumps some of Amazon’s profit toward the Wolvertons.)

3. Donate directly and find out more about Ben’s condition HERE.

    Brent,

I would love to help David’s family. Our family uses Amazon all the time. When I use the link you have on here, it just looks like a regular Amazon page with no indication that the money goes anywhere but to Amazon. Is there a way to tell? Is there something I need to do so that the 7-8% goes to his family? Thanks for your help and for doing this for a fellow writer.

    JD

I think just following the link does it. (This is my first time doing Amazon affiliate stuff, so I _believe_ so, but that’s just what I’ve been told.) I think Amazon puts in a cookie or something that says you came from affiliate X, and then bumps the percentage to them automatically.

Wow. What a disappointing response. Someone in the SFF community is in need. What do you think is the appropriate response to people in need? Oh, and he’d give you an award-winning novel if you’d help. There was no hard sell here, no manipulation. I put it on my webpage for my visitors to ignore or respond as they wished. Fact is, you spent longer typing in your comment than it took to read my short post.

If I buy Nightingale in e-book, does the donation money still go to David?

Hey Brent I’m a big fan of yours so I bought the book. Hope to hear David’s son wakes up soon. Its nice to see the SFF community looking out for each other.

Thank you for putting the word out on this, I already bought this book when the main book bomb was active. I was on your page looking for excerpts of the Night Angel Trilogy. I just bought the omnibus because I liked the excerpt. The fact that you posted this was also a deciding factor in your column. I am enjoying your writing, again.

Thank you for telling us about this. It is a sad story and not a sob story. Since we are buying books anyway, why shouldn’t we be overjoyed to help someone that needs it. Do you know how long the link will work. So far, I have been using it for everything I buy on Amazon. I hope some is getting through to David. I did buy both versions of NIghtingale. Do you know if he gets a bigger % with the other books he has written as well?
