Gemmell Award Voting is Open

The David Gemmell Legend Award is now open for voting. I have been nominated to the long list. “The award will be given to a work written in the ‘spirit’ of the late, great David Gemmell, a true Master of Heroic Fantasy.” From the website (and Gemmell’s obituary): “Characterisation is acknowledged as one of Gemmell’s major skills, and… themes that remained pivotal to his work [included] the lone hero, often tortured by loss or doubt; the battle against advancing dotage; the pursuit of seemingly lost causes; complex villains, and the inclusion of elite, usually mystical, groups. A consistent thread in Gemmell’s fiction, and one which reflected his Christian beliefs, was the conviction that redemption was possible for even the most corrupt.”

If you think that sounds like my work, please VOTE HERE. It only takes two or three clicks, and you don’t have to register. Although if you’re already part of my Ning forum, you’ll find they’re using the same platform, so it should be a snap. Then you can take part in the Gemmell discussions, or tell people why they should check me out. 🙂 It’s also a good place to find other great work published this year. I’m up against some huge talents, and making the short list would make my year.

    VOTED!!

Jeez, Mr. I’m-up-against-some-huge-talent, try not to be so modest. YOU ARE AMAZING (get over it!). If you’re trilogy isn’t a complex story about lost causes, love, and redemption I don’t know what is.

I started with Shadows Edge (That’s all my local B&N had) and I actually picked it up on a whim (My exact thoughts were something along the lines of “Hey, an Assassin’s Creed rip-off!”).
I’ll be the first to admit I’ve become a little afraid of fantasy and the whole Black and White, good v. evil thing and I vowed never to waste money on a fantasy book again.

….then you come along, with this fantastic book series filled with all sorts of shades of gray and really cool characters (Like Vi! I liked how Vi turned out) making me go and special order your books. *grumble*grumble*

But really, thank you for writing a fantastic series and restoring my love for fantasy novels! You have earned yourself a fangirl for life. (Also the Night Angel Trilogy would make a way better video game than Assassin’s Creed)

Best of luck with the award. I went and voted as well, and I agree with a good portion of T.K.’s comments above (except I’m not a fangirl, not being female – sorry).

Anyways, here’s hoping you get tons of votes!

I really, really, really, really want you to win. I love your writing! It’s amazing. I think you deserve it too. I bought your first book and made all my friends read it. They loved it. I want you to win. I’ve read the first book twice and I’m still stunned by it.

Your book is the best fantasy book ever. It’s filled with everything I wanted. I love your writing!!!

Yes I’m another fan girl! *screams* I’m planning on buying rest of the series and any of your future work!

Your writing is amezing. It keeps me on edge! I could go on forever saying every
quote i loved or the way you wrote.

Please keep writing. Best of luck too!

You’re a incredible writer. I stayed up all night trying to finish the first one. I didn’t finish it. The next day I went to school and slept in class and failed a test. I failed the test because I was busy reading your awesome book and not studying.

Good luck! I hope you win.

its a shame i nevere discovered David Gemmel while i lived in the states. i had togoto Australia to find him, and i believe i own a copy of virtually every book he has published. it was with a great sense of loss that i grieved his passing.. who was going to write such stories now??

I am so very glad that i visited borders bookstore (visited to pass the time while my daughter christmas shopped) and they had all three of your books.. i dont usaully pick up the entire series at once.. i usually will only pick up book 1, but many times i find that bookstore wont stock part 2 3 or only will have part 3 (but no part 1) so on a whim i grabbed all three..i began reading on christmas eve… and have just started on book 3!!

Bravo! and here is hoping for many more tales woven over the coming years.

I voted for you! I’m already bored because everything else I read just doesn’t hold up to your books. Everything else is kinda boooring~ 🙁

ffff I really hope you win! You deserve it 🙂

I have to say that after reading uncountable fantasy novels including every Gemmell book printed, “Way of Shadows” has gone into my top 5 and no. 1 for first novels. Truly spellbinding.

Voted twice from both of my IP addresses, once for me and once for my wife whom I am “encouraging” to read it….. Ok ok I’m nagging until she gives in… 🙂

Also bought the trilogy on Amazon for my brother who lives in London so maybe another vote there.
