Good news and better news

Good news 1: The Way of Shadows has already gone back to press in both the US and the UK. This means they’re selling better than expected (or at least better than they feared). So, thank you to YOU, because this leads to…

Good news 2: Orbit has offered–and I have accepted–another three book deal! I’m not a one hit wonder! (Err, three hit wonder? Err, three pretty-well-performing midlister?) Regardless, I’m going to be writing a new trilogy (I think) set in a completely new world, new magic, with great conflict and impossible dilemmas, and characters that will keep surprising you (I hope). I do plan to return to Midcyru after this series. I just decided that I’m not ready as a writer to pull off the ambitious project I envision there. So if your favorite character is still alive by the end of Beyond the Shadows (muhahah), you MIGHT get to see them again…

So, thank you!

YAY!! Congrats! I think everyone is worried that there may be nothing more after the Night Angel Trilogy. It’s awesome that you get to write more books! I’ll miss Midcyru for a while but it will be worth the wait ^^ I look forward to reading your new books!

Reading has never been the same after Shadow’s Edge. I will stare through bookstore windows until my psychic abilities make them stock their shelves a week early with Beyond the Shadows. (yeah right that never works)

    congrats agaaain~

  2. Connie says:

i picked up way of shadows and shadow’s edge after hearing about them on ilona andrews’ blog and i’d just like to say i’m really impressed. i’m counting down the days til beyond the shadows comes out and i’m excited to hear you’ll be writing another trilogy. congratulations!

will the books be coming out altogether like the shadows series or year by year?

  3. Kat says:

*jumps up and down in euphoric glee* Oh, that is awesome news! 😀 You’re too good to waste on just three books!

    Just, please, please, please don’t turn into another Erin Hunter, with a good story but you keep on going on and on and losing your edge and you start to hate the characters… >>;

  4. Philip says:

I finished Beyond the Shadows today, my local B&N had it in stock yesterday afternoon. Killer stuff man, it will be quite a wait for your next set of releases. I’m just glad I didn’t have to actually wait until December to finish the Night Angel Trilogy. 😛

  5. Drew says:

Congrats! I can’t wait to see what this new series has to hold. I am also glad to know that we have not seen the end of Midcyru just yet.

  6. hagelrat says:

Nearly finished book 1 and have book two standing by. Really loving the series so far.
Nice to finally find an example of this sort of fantasy that doesn’t lose itself a bit towared the end.

  7. Zohar says:

I am counting down the days until I receive the books here in Brazil!

  8. Chet says:

Congrats are in order. I do believe that Shadow’s Edge and Beyond the Shadows are destined for additional printings as well. I am in the middle of Beyond the Shadows as I write this, and am I impressed. I am looking forward to reading what you have in store for us. It is nice to have an author out there who is as personable and entertaining as you are.

Saving a bowl of gumbo for you if you ever feel the need to come down here to south Louisiana.

  9. Fina says:

    Wow that’s good to hear!
I finished the second book just now, and I don’t know how I can survive to wait until the third book is available in the store.
The story you created is amazing, makes my eyes glued to every word of it.
I’ll certainly hunt all of your new books. I love it that your trilogy is out just one month in between.

  10. Geoff says:

I’ve been reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy for 30 years now and it is always a Great pleasure to find a writer with such engaging characters and a fascinating new world to learn about.

I believe I read each book within several days of their release and am very pleased that Orbit recognized the talent they’ve got in you.

Congratulations and I am looking forward to your new series as well as the “return” to explorations of Midcyru.

  11. brent says:

Thanks, everyone. Right now, I’m on a book-a-year schedule. I wish I could write fast enough to have a book come out every month! Of course, if I did, they wouldn’t be that good, so I hope the quality makes up for the lack in quantity. And of course, without all of you buying my books and telling friends about them, this wouldn’t be happening, so thank you.

  12. Josh says:

That is good to hear that there may be a return to Midcyru.I’ve been reading from the age of 8. Iam 17 and have read 500 or more books. and I love this series they have to be my favorite book’s.gogd luck to you brent

  13. Josh says:

Brent, I have to say that it is difficult for me to switch to new authors. I’m pretty loyal to my small group (Feist, Eddings, Lumley, Goodkind, and Butcher to name a few), but it’s too painful to wait for new books. So last weekend I found the Night Angels trilogy at Borders and I’m a big fan now. Kylar and Durzo are some of my favorite characters. I love that the whole trilogy was released in a short time, and I didn’t have to wait two years to finish the story. Not that the story is over…I can see there is so much more to explore.
Congratulations, on your success. I will be looking forward to your next books for sure!

    Take care, Josh

  14. Terry says:

Brent, what do you mean “Might” return to Midcyru…. you had damn well better LOL.
Just read all 3 books in a week. Could not put them down! I read about 2 or 3 books a week, mostly fantasy, some series like Magician I have read and reread numerous occasions. You can be sure I will be rereading Shadows again and again. Nice to hear you will be doing a whole new series, but please, please return to Midcyru as soon as possible. Can’t wait. All in all the most exciting series I have read this year. All the best for the future… Terry

  15. Margo says:

On my way to the bookstore to pick up vol 2 and 3 of the night angel trilogy. Thank you for a good read. Love the characters, the suspense and depth of story. Best of all – all three books are out at once. It is terrible to have to wait for a year or two for the next part of the story. I would rather wait 3 years and then have all of a trilogy come out at once. fyi for your demographics I am a 64 year old woman who has been reading science fiction since high school. Thanks for the fresh new voice even if it is fantasy! Margo

  16. Cheryl says:

    Hi Brent!
My son (15) stumbled upon your first book in Borders and loved it. I bought him the next two for Christmas and ended up giving them to him early because he was so excited to read them. He plowed through them in a matter of 3 days. He will be so thrilled when I tell him you have another series coming out!

Thank you so much for your great writing style that captivates your readers and leaves them wanting more! 🙂 Who knew you are from Oregon too, I will have to tell my son that tidbit too!

    Merry Christmas!

  17. Caro says:

Yes! Yes! YES!!! I was VERY disappointed when I read the ending of the 3rd book! IT SHOULD NOT END YET! NOOO! It was not even a good ending either, I was like h0mg… it can’t end! I fully expect the next books to be non-Azoth centered, or I will only hunt for Azoth’s parts and leave it without buying. I don’t like side-stories.

Now, please listen to me… Fumble through the new 3 books deal, make it fast. Finish it within a year please. At this rate, I won’t be able to read about my sweetheart Azoth and Acelus for another 4-5 years and I don’t like it one bit. What if I die before you even publish the 4th book (or 1st of the 2nd trilogy).

Okay, I’m sorry for my insensitiveness and bluntness. I just love the Night Angel books and it pains me to realize it will be a long time before I am able to read more. I just want to let you know that.

  18. Caro says:

Woops, sorry. In my previous comment, I said “I fully expect the next books to be non-Azoth centered”

I meant Azoth centered, not non-Azoth.

  19. Caro's Sis says:

Congratulations. This book is one of the best I’ve read, and I can’t wait until you come out with a fourth one. I just hope it won’t be too long from now, I miss my fav characters already and I finished the third book less than an hour ago.
I’ll be looking in on your new triology, hoping it’s as good as the Night Angel series. To be honest, I wish you’d make the new triology the sequel to the Night Angel triology.. like Robin Hobb’s Assasin’s Apprentice. I personally hope Kylar’s training isn’t over yet, my favorite parts are when Kylar is training or doing some stupid thing and having people like Momma K and Blint and others rescue him.
Again, congratulations on your new deal with Orbit and with these three well written books that captivate the reader from beginning to end. (Caro didn’t sleep for two days reading..)

  20. Josh Cazzy says:

Can’t wait for the new series. The Night Angel series was by far the best books I have ever read. I couldn’t stop reading them once I picked them up. Finished them all in 3 or 4 days. Keep up the good work.

  21. revelation says:

this trilogy was phenomenal. in three days i had 5 hours of sleep because i couldn’t stop reading it.i was truly amazed by your style of writing and loved the charcater vi. I am highly looking forward to your next book and wish you a great and long career of awesome novel writing.

  22. Nathan says:

Hi, i read about 3 books a week, and this is easily the most captivating series i have read, cant wait for you new series to come out but please return to kylar!!!

  23. John says:

I have finished all 3 books. I can’t wait for the new series. I am dying to know that how Kylar and Vi will go on. Plz make the Night Angel series better, longer and faster. It is really wonderful series.

  24. George says:

Hey, just finnished the trilogy, couldnt put it down!
Am so glad to hear there might be more of Kylar, I wana find out what happens to him and Vi!
    Keep up the awesome work
    George

  25. Hello
I just wanted to Thank you so much for such terrific novels. I have read through both “way of the shadow” and “Shadows edge” in a space of days. Waiting patiently for the last of the series to arrive from Amazon any day now. While I wait I wanted to commend your gift for writing. As a budding author myself, I know I am not telling you anything you don’t already know. But works like yours definitely inspire me to try to be even better than I am. Your stories have layers, and great depth of character far better than the stuff I have read from some of the biggest published names out there. Crichton has nothing on you when comparing character development and story telling. You have a gift/Talent that will make you even more famous in the future, just give us even better and better stories. Tell me, has anyone approached you about doing a full length animated movie of this series? If your agent is smart he would be shopping this not just to Hollywood, but to anime production companies. I would love to see a full length movie made of these three in the Vein of Akira. Okay I have said too much already. Thank you for the read. Looking forward to reading more of your works

  26. Kyler says:

Its almost 5 am, and I just spent the last 11 hours reading Beyond the Shadows. These are by far the geatest books I have ever read. when I finished the third book a few minutes ago, I got on the computer as fast as I could, hoping to find out if you were writing more books. To know that you are writing more books has filled me with an excitement that would take pages to describe. You are an amazing author, and I wish you the best of luck with your new books.

  27. Rogala says:

Just finished reading Beyond The Shadows. A very good trilogy. The best I have read in a while. Please do NOT write any sequels. I have been reading fantasy novels for several decades and extended series almost always go down hill (re Cook, Anthony, Farmer, Burroughs) and disappoint the fans. Don’t do that to your talent.
Invent new worlds and fresh characters.
If you must return to Midcyru, wait at least ten years. By then you should have new ideas and a different perspective.

  28. Brooke says:

Awesome! I read the whole trilogy in about a week. I just couldn’t put it down. I really hope you visit that world again, it was really great!

  29. Chernobyl says:

I’ll wait…and read the new trilogy while I wait but the Night Angel trilogy was too good for me to not read every book you write. I just don’t find many good writers anymore. Terry Brooks is one and then you are another one now. I noticed he put in a recommendation on one of the books in the trilogy which really made me look forward to reading it even more. I work fulltime and I’m going to school fulltime but I finished Shadow’s Edge in 2 days. That is rare for me. So thank you, for showing me there are good writers left, and for continuing to write.

  30. Victoria says:

OMGosh you have to write more books on Kyler I mean he is Immortal and you said the world would need him again…You are such a great writer I dont want to see Kyler and everyone else left behind. There is still so much potential for that story line. Please Please Please bring The Night Angel back he is by far my favorite character of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Joe says:

man i love the first books its the only time i read and these books inspired me. i hope we get to see kylar again, he was the man good going Weeks

  32. Shigeru says:

Mr.Weeks!!!! Your books were some of the best I’ve read in a long time! I picked up the Night Angel Trilogy only recently, say a couple of weeks ago, and I finished all three books in the span of about a couple of days (Which is basically the fastest I’ve ever read a book let alone a trilogy!). I’m not about to compare your writing to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, but I would have to argue that in the Fantasy genre, your Night Angel Trilogy comes second. When I was say, thirteen years old, Tolkien’s books got me hooked on the Fantasy/Sci-Fi genre. I then moved on to books like Christopher Paolini’s Inheritnace cycle, which I must say was good, but that was the only series that I liked until I was browsing books at the local Borders and found The Way of Shadows. The characters in your book were amazingliy vivid and all of them have become favorites of mine, Even Garoth whose heart was so black it could blot out the sun, is among some of the most memorable characters I’ve ever read about in books. Kylar, Durzo, Vi, Momma K, They’re all great! Especially Durzo! He is so Cool! The plot was always sucking me in, keeping me up late on school nights sometimes until maybe four in the morning. I love your books!!! I cant wait for your next trilogy and hope that someday soon you’ll continue Kylar and the gangs adventures Midcyru. Of course dont rush too much! A good book is a work of art, and all works of art take time! Well any way on a side note, your books have also inspired me to attempt to write a book of my own…………..It probably wont be very good, but books like yours make me want to be able to do what you can do, to paint vivid landscapes, and characters and what they are feeling with words. To make a story that will keep readers like myself up late into the night and the early morning sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens on the next page! Mr. Weeks I wish you luck ( Not that you need it!) on your new books and hope that you’re sucessful in all your future endeavors!

    Sincerely Your Self-Proclaimed Biggest Fan,
    Mitchell Shigeru Colditz

  33. drew says:

Hey, these books are epic. They made me laugh, cry, and shout “BOO-YA!” at times. it was a sad ending, but was still really good. I can’t wait till it returns in the sequel. will some people we thought dead come back again like in book 3? (i hope so) we will have to wait and see :).

  34. King says:

The best thing I have read in a long time. Keep em
    coming.

  35. Kyle Smith says:

Whoa! This series completely blew my mind. I loved everything about it. Read the series in 12 days. Finished Beyond the Shadows in one night. I can’t wait for the next set of Midcyru books.

Seems Drizzt Do’Urden may have met his equal!

    Keep the good words flowing.

    – Kyle

    1. Leon says:

Hahaha I actually like the thought. I’ve read most of one series and all of the other, and I think Drizzit might just have lost this match, but then again, maybe not :/

  36. adam says:

  39. Garrett says:

Man, all i can say is that i LOVE this trilogy, i really wanted to hope for the next series, but this time Kylar is the Ka’kari guardian. I am EXTREMELY hoping that the relationship with Vi and him improve to almost or actually marriage because they do make a nice couple (in bed, just talking, in battle) and i also had a crazy thought that Vi would also help Kylar guard the rest of the Ka’kari. I also do hope that Kylar still have some trainings to do with Durzo, why?, because i love Durzo’s rue comments and picks on Kylar just for the fun of it. I find myself that the Black Ka’ kari was funny as well. And my thought if he was to be friends with King Logan (which they still should be), does that mean Kylar have to change his name. (probably keeping Drake instead of Stern) These are my ideas that you may or may not thought of that I like to see in the next series. I have more ideas but im sure you are getting tired of this paragraphs lol. And to be honest, this is the first Brent Weeks books i ever read, and i high expectation for you in the future. ^^

(i do hope you realize that the words in caps are me empathizing, take me as spoil or dreamer, but i won’t care ^^)

  40. Jay Channon says:

I love the whole Night Angel series, i wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another one of those books (if a fourth comes out) and read it until the next one comes out (if another does) , by the way is there anymore news on the new books that you might be writing in the not too distant future? i was hoping for another Night Angel book as The Way of Shadows left a great ending for a new book. I love this series and can’t wait to read more of them, i unfortunately haven’t been able to get my hands on Perfect Shadow, but I think Feir should somehow find out how to craft ka’kari so Durzo gets an immortal life again.
Thank you so much for this series 🙂

  41. dash says:

i am a huge fan and am desperate to read more of kylars story after the events of beyond the shadows. im especially keen to see what will happen with vi and kylar as well as whether or not kylar will learn that awesome trick durzo uses to fly at the end of the seires. 🙂

  42. Joe elderkin says:

Loved the books must’ve read them 5 or 6 times since last year now.
Is it just me or would your return to the world of Kylar have anything to do with Dorian’s statement in the first book that “the boy who needs to hold curoch, that the whole world needs to hold curoch, isn’t even born yet”? Hmmm

  43. Brent, you're the man says:

I’ve been reading fantasy/ sci fiction/ mystery non stop since I was 12, and now that I’m 20 I have quite the book collection. But I have never been so engrossed in a world as I have in night angel. I love black prism and blinding knife, and had to Reread night angel because I couldn’t bring myself to read another author’s work. I’ve used the night angel trilogy to convert all of my friends in the past 4 years, and whether they’re athletes who never read for pleasure before or fellow premed students, they have all fallen in love with this series unlike anything else. This trilogy is truly my- and everyone I can get to read it- favorite. I really hope u still plan to continue the series after lightbringer because it is truly genius.

I’ve never posted on here and I read night angel originally 4 years ago so I had a lot to say lol do the next books justice! They’ll be your masterpiece.

  44. Mark says:

Best book I have ever read. No question. I have never in my life finished three books this fast. I only wish there was a sequel.

    Thank you for writing this.

  45. Sue says:

This trilogy is certainly one of my favourites, ever since I read it for the first time I was left with the sense of loss because it ended too fast…my books got all worn down from rereading them.
I’m waiting in anticipation for the next adventures in the world of Midcyru. I’m especially looking forward to meeting Azoth again as I feel there is much potential for exciting stories centered around him 🙂

You have my eternal gratitude for writing this series. Please, don’t leave it at that and let us return to this world and those wonderful characters!

  46. Tom says:

Didn’t think I could read another book after A song of ice and fire but fuck me what a great read, 4am just finished the last book devastated there’s nothing more yet, please tell me what happens between Kylar and Vi?

  47. Chris says:

This trilogy was absolutely amazing; congrats mister weeks you’ve made the list for my top fantasy authors of time. The character development was fantastic and the story amazing. This was an absolute work of art. I hope you continue the great work and I look forward to reading more of it.

  48. joshua says:

I finished beyond the shadows thirty minutes ago. Spectacular. I was legitimately concerned that I wouldn’t get to read more…until now. With my hopes reinforced, I’ll move on to the black prism and eagerly await the continuation of the night angels series. You have my despest gratitude.

  49. Ezioluna says:

From the very beginning I fell in love with the characters and at the end I loved the characters so much more seeing how each of them grew and evolved in a world that should have destroyed them is incredible. Jarls whole speech and the dream he had for the future that entire part had my hairs standing on end but my favorite character by far is Vi she was so damaged and unwanted that when she finally realizes she’s part of a family of sisters finally accepted and wanted by others I felt how she felt at that moment and was so happey for her that part made me tear up. I just wish there was more to read I have read the books about four times now and I’m left with so many questions. For one what happens to Uly does she become a battle magae like Vi but with her moms brains and her fathers attitude and cunning or does she follow a different path. and what of Kyler and Elene’s Son does Vi ever tell Kyler what Dorian did or does she keep It from him and protect the Boy in secret. Does Logan ever learn the truth that one of the boys is Kylers son. But my biggest question is what is the Black kakari really its old but where did it come from I have so many unanswered questions I wish the Night Angel story will continue eventually its one of the best Trilogy’s I’ve ever read please continue it there is so much more that could be told

  50. Etienne B says:

I have to say, this is the third time I’m reading the Night Angel trilogy, and this time I love it ten times better because I’m older and I appreciate the work it took to write all of these words. I don’t think Brent will see this, but I can only hope. What happens next?!? We leave Kylar with Vi, and they are on good terms now? How good are those terms? Does Kylar learn to love Vi? What happens with Kylar and Garuwashi’s duel in ten years (And does Kylar win)? How does Durzo live with Momma K? Is Kylar ever able to figure out how to get 30ft expandable wings in seconds like Durzo? How does Kylar live through his long, maybe not boring, immortal life? Too many questions. Fourteen years since the first book was released. WE NEED MORE BRENT!
In all seriousness, thank you for a fantastic journey reading your books, and I hope you get some more writers duel and start hitting down answers to your fans’ questions. 🙂

    1. The Dread Pirate CAPSLOCK says:

You might just find out the answer to some of these questions next April/May (2023) when NIGHT ANGEL NEMESIS is released. 😉 Hope you love it! -Brent (even though I’m logged in as Capslock)
