In Which Our Hero Encounters The New York Times…

Woo hoo! It looks like the hometown kid made good. Making the transition from paperback to hardcover is a bit scary: Will anyone think a Brent Weeks book is worth 25 bones? Well, it seems that some people do. Enough people, in fact, to make the Gray Lady notice.

The Black Prism debuted on The New York Times best seller list at number 23.

Last time, with the mass market paperback, I reached my apogee at number 29, so I’m very pleased. Of course, the printed list only shows up to 15, so if you go hunting my name, you’ll actually need a computer. But hey, look at this, you have a computer right in front of you! Marvelous! See that thingy near your hand? Use it to point HERE.

Congratulations, Brent! I have not yet read THE BLACK PRISM; I’m trying to get all my big books out of the way so I can get to it! I’m sure it will be great, though!

  2. Sasha says:

Congratulations and Thank You! The Black Prism was fantastic! I shelved everything else, mid-book. Read it in one (extremely manic) 24 hour burst. I loved the Night Angel Trilogy, so have been waiting for your next publishing. I loved it. Worth the wait and 25 bucks, for sure. Can’t wait for more!

  3. Charley says:

Congrats!!!! I got it on audio book and have yet to finish it but i like it so far and so do the other friends that i made get it.

  4. ria says:

Congratulations. Based on how good the Night Angel books were, I think it would have been a surprise if The Black Prism hadn’t gotten on the list.
I’m happy for you. This is great news.

  5. Laurel says:

Most excellent, and I expect that number will continue to move higher. 🙂

    See you tonight!

  6. Eric says:

  9. Dan says:

Congratulations. I enjoyed the Night Angel books, and was expecting more of the same. I was very happy to find that The Black Prism was even better. Very much worth the $25.

  10. Ryan Letch says:

Well done but not surprising, exceptional book.

  11. Mer says:

Congrats! I certainly thought it was worth shelling out the cash for. Bought it mere hours after it came out on my drive home from the airport. I regretted nothing. It deserves being on the bestseller’s list.

  12. brad dickey says:

Maybe the people that read TERRY BROOKS short print example of a Novel, will be as frustrated as I was, and rush out to find the next best selling fantasy on the list and you’ll score!

  13. Anne says:

Congrats! Your books are great. HAha. And of course I was late in finding out your books came out. oops. And my hours got cut. (My work new this book was coming out. They must have! MAAHHAHAHAH. Fake paranoia) So. As a fan of your assassin trilogy books, I can not wait to get the black prism book. I am so getting hard cover. Well if my paychecks and bills let me that is. Haha. I’ll do my best though! Keep on writing! Your the best!

I rarely buy hard copy of books before reading them. I usually check them out of the library and if I was blown away by the book, I will buy it so I can add it to my personal library. I took a leap of faith for “The Dark Prism” because I loved the Night Angel books and I have to say it that I was blown away. “The Dark Prism” was so much better than the Night Angel books and that is saying something. After I finished the book I went back to the book store and bought a couple extra so I could send them to a couple of Air Force friends who aren’t in the country so they could enjoy them as well. You sir have gained a loyal fan who is eagerly awaiting not only the next 2 Lightbringer books but any other adventures you decided to share with us.

It was great to meet you in Orlando. I am enjoying The Black Prism, all the best

I’m just now on the second book in the Night Angel’s Series. I picked it up last night before bed (mistake) and couldn’t put it down until I was one hundred pages in. If I hadn’t had to work today it would be an all nighter. I love it. As soon as I get through the Night Angel’s Series I’ll be sure to snatch up The Black Prism.

I’m so sad I missed your Dallas appearance though. I would have drove the three hours from Houston! Ironically, I had just picked up your book the weekend you were there and was sitting at a Starbucks engrossed in it. Meh!

  17. Star says:

Congrats Brent. I just finished the Prism and if I wouldn’t die of suffocation beforehand, I would be waiting with bated breath for the second in the series.

  18. Sarah says:

    So excited for you!

The Black Prism was phenomenal!!!!!!!! I’ve already gone back and read it again because I was having “Weeks-ian” withdrawals. The book was over too soon. lol Probably because I read it in a day.

Now I’m going through Night Angel Trilogy for a 3rd time…very slowly.

Looking forward to your next book!

Well frigging done, Mr. Weeks, sir. You deserve all of my respect for, not only a fantasy series which made me say ‘bonjour’ to Horror (say sorry, I watch far too much Only Fools and Horses) and start writing fantasy.

I’ve read the NA trilogy about four times now, and I swear to God I need about twnetyfive teas, consumed consecutively, just to stop me killing a few people due to the death of Durzo.

I’ve read The Black Prism (I’d like to brag that I got it on the first day…OH YEAH! NO-LIFE FOR THE WIN!) and WOW! I found myself rooting for Gavin, despite everything he’s done (say sorry, spoiler there).

You actually deserve the praise and for your books to be bestsellers. After all, Gavin, Kylar, and hell, even Kip, can go and kick Harry Potter and all those tweedy little wizard’s arses.

2 Favors: One, please, please, PLEASE do a tour round the jolly old Land Of Eng (Fine, England if you have to be so picky) just so that I can shake your ahnd and buy you a cup of tea (too young for booze, you see.)

Second favour: Release Lightbringer: Book 2 as soon as possible. I have an inkling of an idea as to some cliffhangers, but I want to know if you’ll surprise me or if I’ve actually gone and learnt your tricks so well.

Tahh, my good sir, and you deserve my respect…oh, and the rigging £24 I spent on getting your Black Prism for me and a friend.

  20. Tim G says:

    Congrats!

The book was excellent and I look forward to the future of the series. I picked up the Kindle version instantly and read it over the course of a day! And soon I will be back reading the Night Angel series for a read through again.

    Keep up the good work!

  21. Derrick S. says:

Congratulations on getting to be #23 on the NYT bestseller list. I still think you should be higher than that, and am eagerly awaiting the next book, though I think my wife and I will have to buy two copies, just because I don’t think either of us will want to wait for the other to finish before we can start.
