Pronunciation Guide

You know what’s irritating about fantasy novels? All those names and terms. Just how the heck do you say “Gra’knagr’aknag’arth*”? Well, I’m here for you.

To celebrate our website relaunch — ooh, pretty colors! — we’re also launching an Audio Guide. Go to THIS page, click on any term, and hear multi-Audie Award winner Simon Vance pronounce each of the names and terms in The Lightbringer Series. Simon is also the narrator for The Blinding Knife and The Broken Eye (available in Audio HERE).

Note that each list has one term at the top in big font, i.e. the A-B Glossary has “ABAYA” at the top. You don’t have to listen to every term from “Abaya” to “Burnous” in order to hear the pronunciation of “Burnous”. Just click directly on “Burnous”. This is a limitation of Soundcloud.

The eagle-eyed among you might notice we have some other things in store for the future. We’ll announce those as soon as we can!

(Also, new poll!)

Social Media Apocalypse

Folks, this may be the beginning of the end. I have now joined Instagram.

Turns out my real name — and my usual internet aliases (characters from my books) — are taken, so on Instagram, I am: AndrossGuile. Naturally.

I plan to update you daily with a little snapshot while I’m on tour. Otherwise, I probably won’t be using Instagram very often. I make no claims to photographic talent or skill. Filters will probably feature heavily. 😉

If you attend one of my signings and take pictures, tag them with #BrokenEyeTour. We plan to do a big round-up of our favorites from The Broken Eye tour and can use all the help we can get! So go crazy: pics of you with the book, with me, with your friends and the book, in front of the bookstore, etc. etc. We’ll even give a free Lightbringer t-shirt to one of you. (Apparently, legally, I can’t just give it to the best. It has to be random. I hate being legal.)

Also. New poll. Check it out. —->

U.S. Author Tour

I know you can often save money by buying online, but if you can, please consider buying the book at the bookstore that is hosting me–or their online portal. The host store goes to the effort of coordinating the event, spreading the word about the event, putting up signs, ordering extra books, and keeping over-worked staff late! If they go to all that work and then everyone buys the book online, they get discouraged and they also lose money. Don’t do that to our friends.

Because the practice of buying elsewhere has become so widespread, at a few stops, the store requires you to buy THE BROKEN EYE there. (Their house, their rules, sorry. I’m their guest.) In most cases, you can pre-order from the host store, (get pre-order goodies from me!), pick up the book on release day, read the whole thing before I arrive, and just keep your receipt. In some cases that will even put you in front of the line.

You can click the links to go to the Facebook events pages for each event, featuring maps, the bookstores’ FB pages where you can see if your friends are already going (or hector them into doing so!), and get more information.

Barnes & Noble Signed Copies

*UPDATE* Thanks everyone who has ordered this. Still three weeks out from publication, and we hit #13 on Barnes & Noble’s Bestseller List! Corollary to that is: I have no idea how many copies are left. If you want to get a signed copy, order soon.

A few weeks ago, I signed 500 books for Barnes and Noble. Ooohh, signature sheets. (They bind these into the front of the book.) Pretty.

SigSheets1 Sig Sheets 2

Great news, they sold out! So they wanted more. But it was too late to just do signature sheets…

BookBox1

Ah, that doesn’t look so bad.

Book Box 2

Oof. All of them? And you need them when?

So I just finished signing 500 more books.  If you’ve been hoping for a signed copy of The Broken Eye but won’t be able to make it to any stops on my TOUR, you can order a signed copy from Barnes & Noble HERE. (And you save 35% off the list price!) There are a limited number of these signed books, so order yours as soon as you can. Also, if you preorder, don’t forget to go HERE to get two free stories and a signed bookplate.

Update: We ran out of the first 1,000 bookplates, but Orbit and I decided to extend that as well. Signed bookplates will now be available for an additional 1,000 preorders, including the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. If you already sent in your address, we added you to the front of the line this time.
