Pre-Order Bonuses

Planning to buy The Broken Eye? Already got the book on order? Awesome. Let me give you free stuff!

Brent with thumbs up

As a special thank-you to those of you who pre-order, I’m giving away a thousand signed bookplates and two brand-new pieces of fiction.

1) From the Lightbringer universe: “GUNNER’S APPRENTICE.” A short story featuring Kip.

2a) From Midcyru: “I, NIGHT ANGEL.” Featuring Kylar. This may be the beginning of a new Night Angel novel.

2b) Prefer audiobooks, or just long to hear the honeyed-gravel tones of my rugged Montana accent? You can either read or listen to me narrate “I, Night Angel.” Or go wild and do both. I don’t judge.

3) Oh, and one more thing. We’re cooking up a new bookplate — that’s a nice sticker to put in the front of your book with custom art on it. For the first thousand people, we’ll mail you one. Signed by me. Free. Postage on us.

You’ll be able to enjoy both stories from your computer, your smart phone, your Kindle Nook, or other e-reader.

To find out how to get your loot, go HERE.*

Haven’t pre-ordered yet???? Go HERE for a long list of retailers.

* Currently U.S., U.K., and Canada only. Fuller explanation HERE.

Thanks so much! The two short pieces are an awesome bonus for something I planned to get regardless. Getting the bookplate would be incredible as well. Really hoping to see a return to Midcyru in the near future. I love Kip’s story but I definitely want to spend some more time with Kylar and/or Durzo.

  2. John says:

There isn’t an option for Canada on the webpage.

    1. John says:

      Nevermind, it just popped up.

    2. brent says:

Refresh the page. We got it up now. 🙂

  3. Andrea says:

WHERE can we pre-order this book? Sadly, my go-to bookseller, Amazon.com says it is unavailable still. 🙁

    1. brent says:

ANY bookseller who gives you a receipt will work. Here’s a quick list of a bunch: http://www.brentweeks.com/news/pre-order-the-broken-eye/

      1. Andrea says:

Thank you, Thank you!! Ordered and read the 2 short stories. Brent, that was messed up, lol. Love you for it!! <3

  4. Judy says:

Hi! Thank you so much!!! And for the record, I only submitted one of my 2 receipts……. didn’t know if it made a difference or not. (I ordered from Amazon on 12 Dec 13, and two copies from Barnes and Noble on 27 May). Didn’t want to take an opportunity away from someone else. Thanks again for being so awesome! (Even if I didn’t win the ARC lol)

  5. KYLE says:

My local Barnes and Noble’s would not allow me to pre-order, they would only allow me to reserve a copy :(.

  6. Aleksandra says:

I’ve preordered your (e)book on Amazon, Mr. Weeks, and I feel sad, because as long as I am from Poland (not from Narnia! ;)) I have no access to yours new, juicy pieces of writing. Hope you’ll find a way to indtroduce them to us, fellows in other parts of the world.

P.S. On one hand, Orbit’s explanation about publishing in other countries is fair, on the other we live (mostly) in the world where there is a free market, so – in my opinion – everyone should have a choice as to whether buy/read original copy of a book or translated one.

  7. Brent T says:

Brent, I gotta say. I just finished re-reading the Nightangel Trilogy for the second time. I thought that the Lightbringer story was slow to start, but I am enamored with that lore now as well. I’ll buy any book you produce man. At first, I was just going pick up your new stuff when I had time. But you so much as hint at more Midcyru action and my wallet was in front of me before I knew what was going on. I’ve read a lot of books in my time. And the Nightangel Trilogy is by far, bar none hands down my favorite of all time.

Keep it up Brent. You’ve got the gift.

….Also… Thanks for the free shtuff…

    1. Brent T says:

Okay so check this out Brent. I find that when I write personally, my skill and temperament is based off of the responses I get from my readers. If they like what I put down, I’m inspired to give more. If not, I tend to lose interest myself. After all, what is the point of story telling when you are writing for yourself? You already know what the end game is. You don’t write books to intrigue yourself….

Anyway. That being said. I’m hoping this applies somewhat to you as well. WRITE. MOAR. NIGHT ANGEL!! I Just finished with I, Night Angel. That is too much of a tease! I need more. I have been curious as to what happens next between the main characters (No spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read yet) since I put the book down the first time. What happens to Durzo? You made me fall in love with an ultimate badass and then ended the story!

So um.. Please write more? Pretty please?

      K thnx, bye.

  8. David says:

There’s a sweet message when you’re done that tells you about how to claim the digital piece of the free swag, but no confirmation that you’re in the first 1000. I’m guessing it’s contingent upon order received, 1-per-household compliance, and review by a hard working staffer throwing their eyes away on our silly receipts.

That said it’d be awesome to get some sort of confirmation email that it went through and, pending review, I’m in the first 1000. Because you’re immensely popular and all, and it’s easy ti believe that even though this is day 1 you’ve already got a lot more than 1000. Then again, confirmation emails might take time away from that hard working staffer. So my anxiety is tempered by understanding.

    1. brent says:

      You’re in. 🙂

  9. Dario says:

hey! i pre-ordered “The Broken Eye” on amazon from italy maybe a month ago….. no free stuff for me ;-(((( am i the only one italia reader o can’t wait for traslated books since ” Shadows Edge”??!!!

  10. Paul says:

    Hey Brent,

I’m in Aus – and I spoke to my bookseller (Dymocks) although I am happy enough to go elsewhere.
I don’t suppose if we Aussies email the pre-order receipt or something similar we can get considered for that first 1000 for bookplates? 🙂

I understand that you can’t process the non-orbit countries the same 🙁

I’d probably order either through Dymocks in Australia, or the book depository in the UK

  11. Adam Johnston says:

So, I didn’t have my order receipt number from Chapters yet when i sent in the order (as I had just done the pre-order) and because I had to leave for work very soon I just took a screen shot of the order confirmation page and sent that. Is that okay?

Also I sent it in about an hour or so after the email went out, does that put me in the first 1000 or no?

    1. brent says:

      You’re good!

  12. hana says:

I want to get the gifts but I want to go the Madison, WI meeting and get my book signed. Do I need to Preorder from that store to get a ticket for an autograph or can I order it from my local Barnes and Noble and keep the awesome gifts?

    1. hana says:

i just ordered it is it possible to con firm if i got the awesome book plate? LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

      1. brent says:

        You’re in.

    2. hana says:

      Last response!! I promise….

I just read the two freebies and I must say so worth using my MAXED OUT Credit Card to buy this book. I loved the short stories and cannot wait for the final book in the Lightbringer Series and the possible continuation of the Night Angel Series.

I would like to know if I am comfirmed though for the plate….LOL…..LOVE BRENT WEEKS!!

  13. Sacha says:

It’s awesome that you’re doing this and the international publishing thing makes sense. But I’ve still got to ask is there any chance of book plates for us international folk?

  14. Xormik says:

    Hey,

I kind of pre-order everything from Amazon since I use mostly my credit card. : But it doesn’t seem to have an option for US…And I can’t pre-order from the Canada one since I use a kindle.

Sorry, would’ve loved some of the stuff. :[

  15. ZimboFan says:

So, I have preordered using iTunes and am not sure it works with a reciept of any kind. Does this mean I am not eligible for these pieces or do I need to upload a photo of my preorder list? Looking forward to hearing from you on this, as my back started itching when I heardtherewas an available piece of work of yours that I had not read.

  16. Eon says:

As a South African I always get screwed. No bonuses 🙁

  17. Jael says:

Now, this here is exactly why I sometimes wish I live in the US/UK. The country I’m from never gets included in anything other than the occasional all-encompassing “available INTERNATIONALLY” events.

*goes off to grumble in a corner*

  18. Reid says:

I know its only US but how about APO AP? I sent in the information and photo of the receipt, any way I can get a plate?

  19. fahad says:

You sir are an evil evil man.
    My jaw hit the floor.
    That’s all I will say.

  20. Maethona says:

Okay, I get why Orbit don’t want to be a jerk but it is kind of a jerk to your international fans. Well, I’m a bilingual German and I pre-ordered your book way back in december and now won’t get any free stuff. I get that the German publisher wants to sell your books but I won’t buy your book in the German translation. I’m more than capable to read them in English and I prefer to read and buy them in English as it is my choice as a customer. Anyway good luck to anyone who can enter the contest. I will see the free stuff on publication day!

  21. Chad says:

    Hi Brent,
Huge fan of your work, have been hooked since the release of Way of the Shadows. As an FYI on your pre-order page Barnes and Noble is listing The Broken Eye as 35% off! So you may want someone to change that from 10% to 35%. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-broken-eye-brent-weeks/1117543439?ean=9780316079921

Keep up the amazing work !

  22. Ryan H. says:

    Hey Brent!

I would hate to see you explode from having your ego inflated too much, but…. I’ll risk it. I have to say that the Night Angel Trilogy is by far my favorite series so far. You have some pretty good competition–Nathan Ryan, Blood Song–but you’re still the best coming of age, cliff-hangar-esque, protagonist hating author, and it is amazing to read your work. Thank you for the free stuff with my recent pre-order, and I hope you didn’t explode from praise…..condolences if you did.

    1. Ryan H. says:

I have to correct this autocorrect malfunction, ANTHONY RYAN is the author of Blood Song…….awkward…..

  23. Blase says:

    But…I want it all noooooowwwwwwww.

Part of me is curious if, when the LBS is done, you’ll be releasing a door-stopper compendium like NAT. The index was pretty neat. I especially enjoyed all the notes by the “author.”

    1. Blase says:

My other issue is that I intend to get the Graphic Audio version of Broken Eye, and I’m trying not to buy everything twice.

      1. hana says:

I know right?! I am seriously in a pickle. I didn’t purchase the second book because my library had it early and I just bought graphic audio version which is awesome! So I’m in a pickle because i purchased the pre-order but I’m debating whether to buy the graphic audio too.

  24. Matthew Brown says:

I want to preorder to get the bonuses, but I want to read it on my Kindle. Can I preorder an ebook version somewhere and get the bonuses? Nowhere I can find seems to have the ebook version available for preorder. Or do we get it automatically with hardcover order?

    1. Matthew Brown says:

      Nothing re: digital versions?

      1. Jacob Gillett says:

Amazon pulled preorders of a lot of books. I ordered mine for the nook through Barnes and Nobles and sent my email confirmation in and got the bonuses. You might be able to download the nook app for the kindle and read it through there. I did that with my nook (i Have the Kindle app) for when there are only things available there.

        Hope this helps.

  25. Matt says:

Will a confirmation email be sent saying whether or not we were in the first 1000 for the signed bookplates, because I really hope that I’m one of them.

  26. Jacob Gillett says:

Thank you so much for doing this. Rereading the books now to prepare for The Broken Eye. Fingers crossed for making it within the first 1000!!

    1. hana says:

I’m gonna do that too but Im gonna wait a little longer cause I want to read it straight after the blinding knife.

      1. Jacob Gillett says:

haha Yeah. I messed up the timing a little bit.

        1. hana says:

Right? Haha. I really want to re read it so I’m reading other series to keep myself from either listening to the graphic audio or read the book…Damn….I keep thinking up the scene where Kip is fighting the final fight for the Black Guard Placement testing and the guard is like

          “Say one more word.”
          “Word.”

AHH!!!! I get shivers thinking about that scene! I seriously hope Kip becomes the hero I (in my mind’s theory) want him to be.

  27. Hayley says:

    Hi,
I live in Australia, does this mean I cannot preorder and get the short stories? Will the short stories be available if I do not pre order?
    Thanks

  28. Tyler says:

    Hey,
I pre-ordered The Broken Eye, but I did it from a local bookstore. The way they have the payment set up, it shows as a customer order deposit on the receipt instead of the title and isbn. Is there something special I need to do to indicate that I am not a cheater, or am I just out of luck?

  29. Matthew Whitehead says:

    Hey Brent,

Cool little reward giveaway- I take it New Zealand, as an Orbit country not listed, is in a similar boat to Australia? No big deal if so, I’d already preordered and am enthusiastic to buy your book either way. 🙂

  30. aidschbe says:

I assure you, as one of the German (or rather Austrian) bilingual readers, the reason we buy the English version is certainly not bookplates. I mean I preordered your book over 6 months ago. 😛
Shame about the short stories though, will they be available elsewhere in the future? I’d hate to miss out on your stuff, devoted addict that I am (leatherbound Perfect Shadow <3).

  31. Zanzith says:

Pre-ordered the book the day the option became available. But since I’m from Norway, I wont be be able to get any of the goodies, sadly. But look on the bright side, in little over a month I’ll be getting a brand new Lightbringer book :3

Keep up the good work, Brent!

  32. Eilis says:

Excited but sad middle earthean here, only a month till new book (pre-ordered in march), but no pre-order bonuses :'(. Is there any chance of Australia being extended to include NZ? (this is probably about the only time you will hear a kiwi say this).

Will probably drown my sorrows by binge reading on all of your books.

PS Is there a chance that I could the rewards via my brother in the US?

  33. Saint Nick says:

Don’t suppose there’s any way to order a paperback instead of a hardcover, is there? And does the hardcover come with one of those annoying sleeves?

    1. CAPSLOCK says:

      Hey,
Brent’s assistant here. At this point, the trade paperback version of The Broken Eye will likely be available in summer 2015. The hardcover does come with a sleeve!
      Best,
      CAPSLOCK

      1. Saint Nick says:

Darn. The two short stories can be downloaded at some point on their own? And is their any way to get the bookplate aside from with the pre-order?

  34. Rick says:

For starters, I love your books so much it’s hard to explain. I am legally blind and your audio books have kept my dark life occupied several times. I have probably read both series 5-6 times each. With that said I have not been able to preorder the upcoming audiobook. I am a huge fan and want to listen to your bonuses as well, but am vexed on how I may accomplish this. Light the path and I shall follow it.

    Thank you
    blind Rick

  35. Astrid says:

    Hey,
read the e-mail to late, started to get angry (at myself for not checking) – but then read on and realised being from Germany, I’m not getting any bonuses anyway. I’m reading all my books in English – unless I’m reading something from a german author. Maethona already has expressed my feelings here … anyway, love the work you do and look forward very much to The Broken Eye !!! And everything else you’re ever going to write 🙂

  36. Aga says:

    hi,
I just find out that The Broken Eye will go out in polish in September! Isn’t it jus a bit late? Any chance to speed it up? 🙁

  37. Rick says:

How can we pre order the broken eye in audio format? I live in Wisconsin and can only do audio due to eye condition.

    1. Rick says:

Sorry didn’t see that my last msg was still awaiting moderator. Thought I goofed and it was erased for some reason

    2. hana says:

Well personally I really like the Graphic Audio version. I’m not sure if they are the only audio company that holds licensing rights to the series though. Double check in case if so then normally they come out with the book within 5 to 6 months max.

      OR

You can do this, I did this with my blind friend. I converted her ebooks to audio friendly reader and she listened it that way. If you don’t mind the robotic tone that is.

Let me know if this helps.

      1. Rick says:

Well I know how to get the audiobook once it comes out. The problem is I would have liked to get in on the bonuses with the pre order. But since there is no way to pre order the audio I can’t get them.

I’ve actually had the kindle version for the night angel trilogy and had zoom text read it to me… Then I got the audio because orbit books suck. If that’s the only way I’m going to get this book so be it, but seeing as how Brent has had all of his books audioized , it’s a safe bet that this one shall have an audio format.

Downside to audio is that it cost more for us blind folks to read these great books.

        1. Rick says:

Correction robot* books suck. Sorry for that misprint

  38. Sammi says:

Does anyone happen to have copied the link to where you can download everything? I submitted my receipt, got the confirmation message it went through, and then my browser kicked me off before I could click on the link. I remember the password, but I can’t get back to the download link. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. brent says:

If you still don’t have it, email me direct brent at brent weeks dot com

  39. Ryan says:

Just pre-ordered. I wasn’t aware I could pre-order from the University bookstore. I was just going to pick it up the day of the signing.
Thanks for the extras. They are much appreciated sir!

  40. Ally says:

hey I am a curious book reader. just wondering the hold up on publication?

    1. brent says:

Not sure what you mean. There is no hold up.

  41. Nick Cifarelli says:

    Hey Brent,

    I live in Australia.

I pre ordered the broken eye on itunes,

how do i get a receipt and qualify for the short stories?

I had read and reread your Night Angel trilogy and A perfect Shadow and your Lightbringer books 1 and 2 about 10 times each! I havent found another writer who hits teh same wavelength.

goddamn cant wait for Aug 26th. And i want my free stuff!

many thanks for inspiring new universes. Your simply amazing.

  42. hana says:

Does anyone know when BW will release the “preview” chapter of The Broken Eye that was not from the Newsletter? Cause I think this was from his earlier draft from over a year ago.

  43. Andrew says:

I already submitted my receipt for pre-ordering and everything, but unfortunately, I was not able to listen to the audio version of I, Night Angel. Is there a way to get a link to it without resubmitting my receipt? I’d really like to listen to your sweet dulcet voice as I read along with the short story. If not, no worries.

  44. J. D. Marshall says:

    Hi Brent,

Huge fan. Love all your work, and looking forward to both this and the new graphic novel (I preordered both today!) Just a bit nervous about how I handled the receipt via indigo. I did a full copy-paste of the details I was given and threw it in there. Hoping I’m good…. fingers crossed!

  45. Adam Diran says:

When is this going to show up on Audible?

  46. Tim says:

Hey, I’ve noticed that orbit’s site says Australia’s included now, but there’s no Australia option in the country field yet. I’ve just put UK for now and added Australia after the state in that field, hopefully that’ll make things clear enough.

    1. Dilan says:

Hey, I’ve actually contacted Orbit Australia and they forwarded it on to the UK site. Hoping for an answer or update by tomorrow. Am not sure if it was a mistake (the inclusion of Australia in the text or non inclusion of Australia in the field).

      1. Scott says:

Don’t see any change to their website.

  47. Kim Miller Brown says:

Totally going to get the Nook version then convert it to my Kindle. 🙂

Way to go Amazon for being awesome .

  48. Rick Lewis says:

So Brent, How quickly did the bookplates go ? I think I got mine in in time but with your fan base 3 hours after posting is a bit chancy 😛

  49. Michael Maddox says:

Any way to find out if you’re in the 1000? Sent in my receipt on Day one of the receipt sending in days. >.>

  50. Evelyn says:

Reached the bonus chapters and opened to read later, went off to run errands, returned to browser crash, and password had poofed from my lame memory 🙁

Hope there will be a general release of these bonus materials after the Broken Eye release or in the near future!! The Orbit site didn’t have a way to retrieve the password or links from what I could tell. And no email confirmation as others have mentioned. Any advice appreciated! I really hope to check this out!

On the upside, still super psyched about my bookplate! Mr. Weeks you da man!

  51. Woodhouse says:

Bought The Night Angel trilogy in eBook form when I wanted to re-read the series again and couldn’t find my copies (AHHHHH!!!). Just hit Beyond The Shadows and came here to find out when the graphic novel will arrive. Seeing the bit about “I, NIGHT ANGEL” possibly being the start of a new Night Angel novel has got me about as energized as Kylar was after ripping the diamonds from the back of that poor, poor tortured soul (I’m not glowing, I promise).

Please, please, please dive back into Midcyru! Additional full-length Kylar adventures would be wonderful but prequel series that delves deeper into the events surrounding the war between Jorsin Alkestes and Roygaris Ursuul would be excellent as well!

  52. Holmelund says:

    *Le Sigh*
Any chance that their policy to exclude other countries can be dispersed from?
I can´t think of a single good reason to buy it in anything but the original language.

Even if your work is translated to danish I will not buy it from an eventual danish publisher for 3 good reasons.
    1. Buying the books in the original language gets me the book without horrible translation mistakes, the loss of finer points and good humor puns lost.
    2. I get it much faster than waiting for a translation. If the rights for it is picked up in the first place.
    3. It´s far cheaper. Even if the 2 others points where not enough this one really clinches it for me. Getting the book in a translated version is anywhere from 50-100% more expensive than it is for me to buy it in English.

  53. Kay says:

Hi! Was just wondering how long to wait for instructions on preorder goodies. I submitted my preorder information a while ago and haven’t heard back. Not trying to nag/rush, just really want these extra stories! Sorry, and thanks. So can’t wait for The Broken Eye!

    1. brent says:

You SHOULD have already gotten the stories. Email or FB message Orbit Books. If you can’t find a contact, ask me Monday, and I’ll get that to you. I should be writing today…

      1. Kay says:

I shot them an email, but haven’t heard back yet. Thank you again! Only one week, I can’t wait!

  54. Kay says:

    Hi again,

I know you’re busy and I hate to bother you again, but I’ve still heard nothing from Orbit Books. I would just submit my preorder info again, but the terms say that’s fraud and not to be done. I am just super eager for the Lightbringer story, and the book comes out very soon. Sorry again, and thank you. 😀

  55. Megan says:

I sent my preorder info for the orig 1000 nameplates but I have not recieved it yet. Would like to know if others have had this prob. Thanks! Love borken eye finally came in the mail. Reading it now!

    1. CAPSLOCK says:

      Hey Megan,
It’s going to be 6-8 weeks from the time we ran the giveaway to when you receive the bookplates (i.e. about another 2-3 weeks from now). Brent’s still on book tour, and we’ve only just received the bookplates from the publisher for him to sign. He’ll do that as soon as he’s done with the tour, and we’ll ship the bookplates back to the publisher for them to distribute to everyone who signed up!
      Thanks for your patience!

      1. hana says:

Okay thanks for answering! I can afford to wait since I’ll be going to one of the book signings! Wee!

Love the book so far and am sad that it is almost done because it means I and MANY OTHERS have to wait 2 whole years!!!

BRENT!!!! *Moans in sadness for the long, long wiat*

  56. Alice says:

    Hi,
I’m also still awaiting my preorder goodies.
I waited the couple of weeks that the other posters were told it would take but I still haven’t recieved them.
I’m not angry or anything, im just really looking forward to getting them and being such a fan I’m a little worried that they may have gotten lost in the mail or something.
If it makes any difference I live in Australia.

Any info would be great thanks,

PS. I love the book Brent, thanks for yet another GREAT read

  57. jason says:

    Pre order bookplate?

    1. brent says:

Those all went to my publisher about two weeks ago. Give them a bit to stuff and address the envelopes. Should be arriving soon!
