Halloween Costume Contest 2013

 Halloween Contest 2013

by CAPSLOCK

How would you like to win a chance to read the first four chapters of The Broken Eye? Do I have the contest for you!

Here are the prizes:

1. First place: The first FOUR chapters of The Broken Eye — that’s two more new chapters than you can get anywhere else right now! — and signed copies of The Black Prism and The Blinding Knife in trade paperback.

2. Second place: Signed copies of The Black Prism and The Blinding Knife in trade paperback.

3. Third place: A signed copy of The Blinding Knife in trade paperback.

4. Fourth place: Two signed bookplates.

Rules:

1. Entry due by Friday, November 1, 2013 at 5pm Pacific Standard Time.

2. Entry must include a picture of you in a costume inspired by the Night Angel Trilogy or the Lightbringer Series (go HERE to check out the Night Angel character sketches), along with a one-to-two sentence description.

3. International entries are allowed and encouraged!

4. As long as the costume is materially yours, some Photoshop is fine (no presenting characters from movies or video games by putting a gloss of Photoshop on it and saying it’s your costume).

5. Two entries allowed per person, but you can only win once.

6. The subject line of the email must read: 2013 Costume Contest.

7. Address the email to: CAPSLOCK @ brentweeks.com (no spaces; and just like last year, Brent will be selecting the winners).

8. The costume must be family-friendly (as usual, we’d like to display the best entries on the website and can’t do that if it’s not appropriate for younger fans)

Winners will be announced on Monday, November 4, 2013.

If you have any other questions, post them in the comments below!

    Hi,
I have a few follow up questions.
    1. Is a video allowed for a submission?
    2. May we submit entries as a partner/pair?
3.If we choose to partner with someone and present as a pair does this count as a submission for both of us? Or are we still free to submit individually?
    4. If one was to win how would the 4 chapters be presented? Digitally or printed? And would they also be signed?
Thank you very much for your time!

      Hi Dan,
      1. Video submissions are allowed.
      2. We’ll judge costumes individually, but if one partner in a pair won, we’d be willing to send chapters to each partner (but only 1 set of the other prizes).
      3. See #2
      4. We’ll print up the chapters, sign a cover page and mail it anywhere in the world for the winner.

Thanks so much for your responses!

I was wondering if is there any age restriction, and how far can we go with photoshop. For example, could we change some fabric colors or add some weapons/props we don’t have, or it’s just for light and special effects?

    1. brent says:

There is no age restriction. Because it’s a costume contest, I’d prefer less photoshop. Obviously, if you’re really good at it, I would have no idea. Shimmery magic that’s just there for flavor is one thing; using a scene from Braveheart and saying it’s you is another. 😉

  3. Armand Van Hutten says:

    Hello,

My twinbrother and I both want to send in entries, and we took our photos together at the same time. Two of the photographs are taken with me in a mask, and I want to show that the person behind the mask (me) is different from the person without a mask (my brother).

May we send an extra photograph, not to be used as a contest entry, to show that there are actually two of us competing though the photos are all taken at the same time in the same setting?

Thank you in advance for your response.

    Sincerely,
    Armand van Hutten

    1. brent says:

      Yeah, that’s great.

  4. Sandeep says:

Well, this is “Highly” irregular and, ahm, “Highly” inappropriate but who is the Lady in white in the pic :)?

    1. CAPSLOCK says:

Sandeep, she is a blue wight! Unless you’re talking about the lady in white/with black cloak at the top of the page — that is Liv Danavis!

      1. Sandeep says:

        Well….Thanks anyways :P.
