The Black Prism – First Three Chapters

I’m sneaking in a post while it is still April. My wife would just hate to have another month completely unrepresented in the archives list to the right. So here it is (I’m a little late to my own party)…the first three chapters of The Black Prism. I’m working night and day to get this book in shape for its slated release in late August. Thus the lack of website action. Lest you think I’m frivolously trotting the globe and otherwise goofing off, please note:

  1. lol! Oh you poor man. If it’s any consolation, that’s pretty much exactly what I looked like when I was putting the finishing touches on my criminal justice semester project a few days ago… except I think there was a bit more drool involved… Well anyway, I’m sure Black Prism will be just as enthralling as your other words, so no need to worry about it. (Though I know that’s much easier to say than to do.)

    wow, spoilers!
As awsome as I’m sure your first three chapters are, do you really expect me to be able survive having had a taste of what’s to come and wait ’till August to read the rest?!?! Tempting as it is, I think I’ll wait!
Dude, just keep going! Keep writing! I say this more for myself, ’cause to be honest, it’s been a while since I was this excited about a book! So, uh…no presure!

  3. Jared Montgomery says:

Wow! Just finished reading the first three chapters of the “Black Prism.” I can’t wait until this book comes out. I am going to tear through it as fast as I did The Night Angel Trilogy. Keep it up!

I read the chapters when Orbit posted them, and I cannot wait for this book. The idea of working magic as different colours is so brilliant. I’m very excited to see what sort of fun and mischief you get up to with this group of characters.

Wow looks like me after playing video games all night. Just do the best you can and the book will be great. And seriously if you could do a book signing in mississippi that would be awesome. Keep up the great work Brent and may God bless you with happiness.

  6. Sensei says:

Ha ha! Looks like you’re working pretty hard Brent. I’m almost finished the Night Angel Trilogy and I don’t know what I’m gonna read next! I’m not exaggerating when I say that its the best book I’ve ever read. I love the way it’s so unpredictable.

    Hi,
I read the night angel trilogy shortly after listening to the first part of the way of shadows that graphic audio had put out. Great writing, I hope you’ll allow for graphic audio to do an audio dramatization of this one as well. Love the new book so far, can’t wait to read it, have a great day.

Hats off to you Brent. I can’t wait to read the rest. You gave us just enough to get us excited. I was shocked to see gunpowder and am keeping an open mind about that detail. Hope all is well with you!

Awesome photo- Rockstar is truly the nectar of the gods… and slaves of deadlines. Red Bull and “sludge” cups are bad either.

I’m one of those weird people who reads the acknowledgements without knowing the author. Without finishing the book yet either. I think we’d get along just fine as well.

  17. Josh says:

hey man i loved the night angel trilogy and i can’t wait for the Black Prism to come out.

    Keep it up!!!

  18. The Capn' says:

I read the Night Angel Trilogy in 6 days and I have read it 3 times. If the rest of the book is as good as the first 3 chapters then I don’t think my time spent reading will get any less.

  19. Blase says:

I’m actually listening to the Audio book of Beyond The Shadows while I write this. Yours is a great trilogy and I look forward to further adventures in Midcryu. I have to say though, your book has inspired me not only to come up with some story of my own, but, inspired by Curoch/Retribution, I am thinking about having a custom sword commissioned mostly just cause I want to have a legendary blade with a name.

  20. Linda says:

I decided not to read it… and resisted for about 10 minutes…
It sounds really awesome! Love the new magic concept! And, of course, interesting characters 🙂
    Good luck meeting the deadline!

  21. Salmy says:

WOW!! finally found Brent weeks site, and im greeted with a new book in the works. I absolutly adore your Night Angel Trilogy. I bought them all after just perusing the first few pages, and let me tell you it was worth every penny. I’m so looking forward to your new book, hopefully it will be even more of a success then the night angel trilogy.

p.s i’m one of those people that doesnt look at the author till after i have read the book, silly right? but now i’vebeen looking earnestly for a new book of yours in my local bookstore, so glad one is coming. keep up the great work!!

    sorry for the essay :p

  24. Logan says:

I used to be an avid reader but over the years stopped reading until about the past four months. That was whenever my friend introduced me to this series, he actually told me that if I didnt like the series that he would pay me. I was immediately intrigued and sat down with the first book that night. I stayed up all night reading it and was quite amazed. I think that being persuaded to read your books was the best mistake of my life. A mistake because I have reread the books at least four times each! Thanks Mr. Weeks!
P.S. if you ever find the time to answer just a teeny tiney question, I would like to know where Durzo Blint came from.
