And finally… coming in Español

PLAZA, a Random House Mondadori imprint, has just acquired the world Spanish language rights, hoping to publish all in 2011. The way I understand how this is likely to work is that they will release in Spain, and depending on sales, will export to other Spanish language markets. They even can export to the US, which strikes me as very cool. I, of course, have no control over any of this, but I will post updates as I learn more and cover art when they send it to me and allow me to show it.

The “and finally” in the title here isn’t because I’m being snarky–no, really! It’s because I had quite a number of emails from people asking when I would publish in Spanish–which I appreciate, but I don’t really publish anything. A publisher has to come to an author first and say that they want to publish your book in language X. Like it seems happens a lot in publishing, we had no interest, followed by no interest, followed by a sudden flurry of interest from numerous corners all at once.

Well, clearly the sudden flurry of interest is because *I* finally discovered your work recently and have already begun the work of passing my copy of the first book around…

The first hit is always free, as the saying goes.

I jest, of course… but I did rather enjoy your work, and I have actually been passing that first copy around, if only to a couple of people so far.

    Felicidades!! (congratulations!)
I was looking forward to the spanish version too so I could
chat with my no-english-knowing spanish friends of the coooolnessssss
    of your trilogy!! ;p
I hope the traduction does justice to dear Durzo’s personality…

  3. It’s great that the books are going to be translated. I just read the first one and I must say I wouldn’t wait for the translation to read the rest. That would be totally impossible for me.

Make sure they get a good translatos, as there are some expressions in the book that are absolutely impossible to convey in Spanish. Some puns and thing like that.

Thanks for your work! reading your books is a pleasure.

Brent Weeks, shame on you for using hyphens in place of em dashes. 😉

  5. brent says:

Stephen, let me assure you that I know the difference. WordPress, unfortunately, does not, and automatically converts the correct diacritical mark (always two dashes when writing, so that copy editors can tell you want an em dash) into a simple hyphen. Philistines, what do they think this is? The internet? 😉

Well, first of all, apologies for my post not being related to this particular topic.
All I wanted to say is:thank you for your books.
David Gemmel was the only fantasy writer I could ever read, the only one who had the ability to suck me into his stories in first 2 pages and make me take the time off work and not even sleep until I finish his book.
    And then he was gone.
I re- read his books and tried others, only to give up after few pages, time after time.
Then I came accross your novels.
I opened the random page at the bookstore, read first few lines and started laughing (only to discover later what drama surrounded those words, and that it was no laughing matter at all). I bought the book and then the next one. Now I am on the third one. And looking forward to more.

Thank you for giving me something to read again.

Cheers to you and your wordsmithing skill,

    Kind Regards,

    Milenko

Just wanted to say Beyond the Shadows is a great book… though to be fair I haven’t finished it yet! Picked it up in a two for three sale without realising it was book 3 in a trilogy (wasn’t mentioned on the cover?).

So now my mission is to pick up the first two books and read them before finishing Beyond. It’s a mission I am truly looking forward to completing!

    La Trilogia del Angel Nocturno:

    El Camino de las sombras
    El borde de las sombras
    Mas alla de las sombras

Well those are my translations of the tittles.

I have finished the first book just today. I take a lot because of every word I don’t know, I have to look it up in the dictionary. This Spanish book will be of GREAT HELP.

Wow it’s amazing news! because this summer I’ve been in Scotland and I discovered the trilogy, and all my friends wanted to read it but they don’t know English!

I can’t wait for the translations!!

One other thing obviously someone is going to have to take some time to make sure that they read equally well on the American Continent and Spain. There are language differences there, just the same as among the English Speaking countries. As someone from England recently moved to Latin America, and enjoyed the books in English, I am looking forward to buying ths Spanish Versions also. Buena suerte!
