Just finished Shadow's Edge. Fantastic. Couldn't stop reading it (including staying up till 5 am one night). Cannot wait for Beyond the Shadows.

Read an interview you gave and one question had to do with cover art. I have to say that the art is great. It was what drew my eye to the book in the first place. Despite the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover', I often find its what attracts my eye to new novels.

Anyways, keep up the great work.

The B&N in my town had Way of the Shadows in September and Shadow's Edge around mid October. Hopefully, they'll get Beyond early, too. It's been a fun series! Thanks Brent!

Hey, everyone, sorry I haven't kept up with posting responses to everyone. I went to a conference and sort of got a deluge of fan emails at the same time, plus I've been putting together my pitch for my next book or trilogy to Orbit...

Kifah, man, that is some dedication. Thank you for the implicit compliment, and sorry I couldn't get the Canadians to release the books faster. On the bright side, I think the Brits are even slower... As soon as I get some clout, I'll work on those guys.

Nick, glad you're torn. You're supposed to be. Tell me if you like how things work out in the end.

Peter, sorry that you didn't like a couple of the story decisions I made. When you're willing to kill off major characters--like I am--the good thing you get is after that, every time you threaten a character with death, a reader knows it could really happen. One of the problems is that if you kill off major characters, you have to promote minor ones. Some people aren't going to connect with those characters. It was a risk I was willing to take. If it really ticked you off, heck, wait until you can get book three free from the library or a buddy. I mean that seriously. I don't want to be an author who forces readers to read book 3, then book 4-12, just so they can see how the story ends. I hated that when authors did it to me. It's a rip-off and I'm doing my best not to do it to you.

Aaron, very devious. I admire that.

Engel, remember Oscar Wilde, who said, "I can resist anything except temptation."

Elisa, thanks. Love the guerilla marketing. Soon we shall take over the world. Muhaha.

Alex, wow, man. Thank you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Patience....how long does that take? You've created a monster, and I don't mean your characters. Geez, I bought the first book last week after walking by it in the book store probably half a dozen times. I needed something to read while trapped in nowhere-ville, at work. I couldn't put it down. So I drive back into town (it's a 5 hours drive), after working a 12 hour night shift and do I head home for sleep and laundry? No. I head straight for the nearest Chapters. No second book. Tragedy! I have to go back to work on Friday, the 29th and the book isn't due for release until the 1st! What passes for a bookstore in 100 Mile House, BC, is a pharmacy....yeah. 'Nough said. So I'm going to have to suffer until I get home again. And to top it all off, I've been conned into doing NaNoWriMo in November. Aaaagghhhh. I foresee NaNoWriMo procrastination full speed ahead!

(Minor SPOILERS if you haven't read book 2, don't read if you haven't read book 1--ed.)

Personally I thought that this book was great. If Kylar has a magical object that makes him immortal then of course he is a superhuman. I have to agree with Peter about Vi though. I mean now I am torn between Elene and Vi....Damn you!!! Oh and the Stars Wars bit was actually pretty funny, I guess it depends on who you ask... Basically your books are the shit....They by far almost Rival the Deathstalker series by Simon R. Green. Keep up the good work and am Looking forward to the 3rd and your next series.

oh one more thing. Please don't pull another George R. R. Martin. His last book where he featured NO main characters was a total sham and he got slammed pretty hard for it.

[SPOILERS OF BOOK 2 in this comment--ed.]

Hi Brent,

First, I want to say that you have a great series here. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and have just finished reading your second. I will definitely be reading the 3rd.

Saying all that, I was disappointed with your second book. I thought it was a little "unbelievable" how you built Kylar up as a almost a super hero and he died 2 times so casually. Kinda took the whole believability factor of the book out for me. Also, I did not like how you made a very minor character Vi, into a major one. The Star Wars homage was also pretty lame, about the "I'm your father bit".

But still, I did enjoy your first book, so I will wait until the 3rd and at least complete the series. I do like the character Kylar and your other MAIN characters you've established thus far.
